Language for Life is a non-profit volunteer-based organization that seeks to connect seniors living in assisted care facilities with local high school students in an effort to bridge the gap between generations and cultures through language.
Many seniors living in retirement communities and assisted living facilities may have barriers to or the absence of opportunities to use their native language. These barriers may include loss of vision, impaired hearing, or the inability to access media.
Students studying languages in high school will be afforded the unique oppourtunity to communicate and interact with native speakers who will be able to provide feedback and assistance through language exchange.
It is our hope that seniors will be able to regularly use their native languages while students are able to practice and improve their secondary language skills through dynamic interactions.
